I watched the entire 8 part program “Evidence For Heaven” and found it fascinating. There was very little new information for those of us who are fans of NDE video testimonies, but what was new (at least for me) was to see a very thorough presentation of so much NDE material from what is obviously a fundamentalist Christian perspective – but without the all to common “it’s a trick of the devil” explanation. In fact, although the program was littered throughout with strongly evangelical interpretations, by and large it was completely accepting of the NDE phenomenon as being real and legitimate. Again, every chance they got they reverted to a fundamentalist interpretation but were remarkably accepting of the testimonies and research materials that those of us here are so familiar with and have found such a blessing.
My strong hunch is that the program will get a lot of criticism from many fundamentalist circles but it may signal the beginning of an overall softening of the rejection of NDE reports that don’t “keep to the party line.” As one who spent the first 45 years of my life very much dedicated the fundamentalist Christian perspective before finally beginning to open up to other spiritual paths, I am particularly heartened by any softening – however small it may be.
Thanks for posting your thoughtful comments here, Walt! Here’s hoping other Pulse readers appreciate it (and you) as much as I do…
Thank you very much for posting this, David. I must admit my spirit was ‘quickened’ by this. Like Walt, I too watched all eight parts and I found particular acceptance of it from deep within.
When the world seeks evidence FOR or AGAINST God, what it is asking is for validation of its interpretations. As the world moves on, so too does its understandings of how the Universe works. New possibilities become open for us; new ways of understanding.
Thank you again for setting up this great community of like minded people.
Hi Simon. My spirit was “quickened” too watching this documentary. While the heavy-focus on Bible-believing Christian fundamentalism was hard to take, I agree with Walt that something of a titanic shift is taking place in mainstream Christianity — and around the world. After eons of being lost in belief systems of all stripes, the Light is finally reaching more and more people directly, personally, and experientially. What a beautiful, magical, exceedingly wonderful time to be alive.
