However, the film is likely to focus more on environmental issues than on the spiritual implications of the story…

The Natural Effect

The Natural Effect

Feb 08

“All-natural” and “natural” claims are among the most commonly used claims on new food products, and annual sales of products with “natural” claims are more than $20 billion. But many products that claim to be “natural” are filled with stuff you couldn’t find in nature — including chemical additives, high fructose corn syrup and genetically engineered ingredients. In other words, only “organic” guarantees that food was produced as Mother Nature intended…

Is It Possible To Clean The Oceans In 5 Years?

Is It Possible To Clean The Oceans In 5 Years?

Feb 02

Stiv Wilson writes: “As the policy director of the ocean conservation nonprofit 5Gyres.org, I can tell you that the problem of ocean plastic pollution is massive. In case you didn’t know, an ocean gyre is a rotating current that circulates within one of the world’s oceans — and recent research has found that these massive systems are filled with plastic waste. There are no great estimates (at least scientific) on how much plastic is in the ocean, but I can say from firsthand knowledge (after sailing to four of the world’s five gyres) that it’s so pervasive it confounds the senses. Gyre cleanup has often been floated as a solution in the past, and recently Boyan Slat’s proposed ‘Ocean Cleanup Array’ went viral in a big way. The nineteen-year-old claims that the system can clean a gyre in 5 years with ‘unprecedented efficiency’ and then recycle the trash collected. The problem is that the barriers to gyre cleanup are so massive that the vast majority of the scientific and advocacy community believe it’s a fool’s errand…”

Near-Death Experience Inspires Man To Help Save The Planet By Planting Trees (Updated)

Sep 07

Near-Death Experiencer David Milarch was told by angels that the earth was in trouble. Its trees were dying, and without them, human life was in jeopardy. The solution, they told him, was to clone the champion trees of the world — the largest, the hardiest, the ones that had survived millennia and were most resilient to climate change — and create a kind of Noah’s ark of tree genetics…

Breakthrough Study Links Climate Change & Violence

Breakthrough Study Links Climate Change & Violence

Aug 02

Shifts in climate change are strongly linked to human violence around the world, according to a comprehensive new study released Thursday by the University of California, Berkeley and Princeton University. The research, which was published in Science, examined 60 previous studies from all major regions of the globe. The results suggest that changes such as drought, flood and high temperatures strongly correlate with spikes in conflict. The biggest culprit: higher temperatures. Out of 27 modern societies studied, all 27 showed a positive relationship between higher temperatures and violence…

Plan To Clone ‘Super-Trees’ Could Resurrect UK’s Ancient Forests

Jun 30

Some of Britain’s best-loved trees could be cloned in an effort to reproduce a range of our most successful and sturdy oaks, yews and firs. The £2m scheme to reproduce and grow again all of Britain’s biggest, oldest, tallest and most ecologically important trees has been devised by the US tree conservationist David Milarch, who hopes to reproduce all the UK’s “super-trees” and then offer tens of thousands of their genetically identical offspring free to schools, cities and landowners…

Atmospheric CO2 Concentrations Surpass 400 PPM Milestone (Updated)

The last time atmospheric CO2 was at 400 parts per million was during the Pliocene Era, three to five million years ago, and humans didn’t exist. This was a time when global temperatures were substantially warmer than today, the Arctic was ice free, and sea levels were between 16 and 130 feet higher than they are today…
