Dream: The Black Blob
Jul 21David Sunfellow writes: “For the past few days I have been dealing with some interpersonal issues that have been emotionally upsetting. Because dealing with emotionally charged interpersonal issues is a universal theme for all of us, I thought some of you might find this dream as interesting — and entertaining — as I did…”

The Vision of Twelve Stones
Apr 07As the universe gradually takes recognizable form, we see our solar system develop. We see our sun and planets. We see moons, asteroid belts, and comets. Then our planet fills our mind’s eye. We watch it evolve through its many stages: Primal gases whirl around, volcanoes erupt, vast oceans of water form, land rises from the tumultuous seas — and then begins to cool. Now, for the first time, life begins to form in the oceans and in the thick, gaseous air. Creatures come into being and begin their long journey to ever-increasing consciousness. We see the first one-celled creatures and watch them slowly transform themselves into new, more complex and aware creatures: plants, ferns and trees; fish, amphibians, and animals that can live on land, in the sea, and in the air. Ages pass and vast numbers of species come and go. Some disappear in the twinkling of an eye, the result of some global catastrophe, while others slowly evolve into other forms. Finally, after eons of growth, we see the Earth as she exists today. From the deep recesses of space we look at her and are stunned by her magnificent beauty. And we are also shaken by how fragile she seems floating all alone in the vast darkness of space…
The Hopping Stone Vision
Apr 07Deep in the southwest deserts, an old medicine man and young brave stand atop a great plateau. Together they silently survey all the Earth. After what seems like ages of absorbing all that can be seen, the old man taps his medicine stick on the ground. From twelve different directions great streaks of lightning strike the Earth, and from each place the lightning strikes, twelve great stones begin to form. As the stones form, the old man begins to sing an ancient song…

TEDx: Martha Atkins on Deathbed Experiences
Mar 13Those who work with the dying are familiar with patients seeing long deceased loved ones, angelic beings, even hearing music and comforting voices as the patient nears death. Deathbed phenomena have been documented in the days, weeks, and months before death since the 1500s. Often confused with hallucinations, deathbed phenomena can bring comfort to patients and caregivers if those involved know what they are experiencing. Death and dying expert Martha Atkins discusses the deathbed phenomena and shares accounts from the dying and bedside witnesses…

New Book: ‘The Angel Effect’
Jan 08In his previous bestseller, The Third Man Factor, John Geiger examined stories of explorers who found themselves at the edge of death and experienced a benevolent presence that led them out of the impossible. After that book’s publication, Geiger was inundated with firsthand accounts from people who’d had the same experience — a visitation that aided them as they faced crises ranging from physical and sexual assaults to automobile accidents, airplane crashes, critical illness, childbirth, and devastating depression.
In The Angel Effect, Geiger brings together a breathtaking collection of personal stories about people who experienced what he now calls the Angel Effect. He argues that the Angel Effect has the potential to aid us, even to save us, and questions whether or not calling on a benevolent presence is a trainable skill that can be applied in moments of great need…

Panel Discussion: ‘Experiencing Death: An Insider’s Perspective’
Dec 21For millennia, human beings have wondered what happens when we die. What is the first-person experience of dying and being brought back to life? Technological advances in resuscitation science have now added an intriguing new chapter to the literature of “out of body” or “near-death experiences” by eliciting detailed and vivid accounts of those who have approached the threshold of death. However we might seek to explain such phenomena, it is no longer tenable to simply dismiss this accumulating body of firsthand experiences. Can these experiences be explained through the lens of biology and neuroscience? What can we learn from the transformative accounts of those who have crossed the threshold of death? How have their experiences affected their sense of self and identity? Join neurologist Kevin Nelson, psychiatrist Peter Fenwick, orthopedic surgeon Mary Neal, and emergency medicine expert Sam Parnia as they share some of these remarkable stories and discuss how they analyze such experiences in light of their own backgrounds and training…
Notes From Sedona’s 12/17/13 NDE Class
Dec 20Most of you know that I have been teaching a series of NDE classes in Sedona. I’ve been at it for almost two years now. The classes grew out of a presentation I did in Sedona in 2012 called “How Near-Death Experiences Are Changing The World.” And that presentation, together with what we’ve been learning and exploring in our local classes eventually gave birth to “The Formula for Creating Heaven on Earth.” What follows is an example of the kind of fantastic material we are covering in our local classes…
The Story of Michael Morton
Dec 15After being wrongly convicted of murdering his wife, Michael Morton spent 25 years in jail. Michael was angry, lost, and broken, until he called out for help from God. A few days after his heartfelt prayer, he had a mystical experience where he was swept up into the presence of God. And shortly after that, everything started changing. Whereas before he was ignored by the U.S. justice system, now the wheels started turning so the wrongs that had been done to him could be rectified…
Jill Bolte Taylor: Does Our Planet Need A Stroke Of Insight? (Updated)
Dec 14I’ve come to understand that the two issues of mental health and global health are closely linked — if not one and the same. Similar processes we use to improve our mental health can help us make better, more responsible decisions as a society — by focusing on the compassion and integrity of our right brain, rather than the judgment, punishment and deception of our left brain…

TED: ‘Eleanor Longden: The Voices In My Head’
Aug 15To all appearances, Eleanor Longden was just like every other student, heading to college full of promise and without a care in the world. That was until the voices in her head started talking. Initially innocuous, these internal narrators became increasingly antagonistic and dictatorial, turning her life into a living nightmare. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, hospitalized, drugged, Longden was discarded by a system that didn’t know how to help her. Longden tells the moving tale of her years-long journey back to mental health, and makes the case that it was through learning to listen to her voices that she was able to survive…
